On July 20th so a week ago today I had 3 more intercostal injections put in my ribs on my right side. This time I had 3 injections only on one side. This is because I have been having the most pain on the right side. I have had 2 ribs that continually go out weekly or more. I go to the chiropractor anywhere from 1-2 times a week if I can push it I try to go every other week. But that is rare. The ribs that go out are always 1 or 2 on the lower right side and 1 or 2 on the upper left side.
So what exactly is done for my injections. Here yah go.
Maximal pain were determined to be at T10, T11 and T12 on
the right. At a location several centimeters lateral from the spine,
injections were completed. A 25G 3.5 inch needle was advanced with a
cephalad tilt, to touch down on the inferior aspect of the rib. After
touching down on the rib, the needle was walked off inferiorly, into the
area of the neurovascular bundle. Advancement was made 1-2mm at a time.
Contrast dye (Isovue 300) was injected. There was no evidence of vascular
uptake or spread towards the spinal canal. 1ml of contrast was injected.
These injections kicked my butt. I had a lot of brain fog for a few days after, my hypoglycemia was on a roller coaster, lightheaded, brain fog. I was so blessed to be able to have these injections at the lake where I have my good bed and could be more comfortable so that helped the pain be less. But still there. Hey I am a week out and doing well. These injections are worth a few days of discomfort for when they work they give me such relief.
